And once my “Computer Tutor” ad in the local “Shopper” newspaper hit the streets – I got my first call…

I was ecstatic!

The call came in from a young fellow in New York City whose dad lived in Cape Coral.

He wanted me to help his dad learn about, and use, a new computer.  After a nice discussion, we agreed that I’d help his dad on a weekly basis.  At least until he was able do basic word processing…

In our first session, I reviewed the very basics of his computer.  I trained him on how to open up Microsoft Word, and type.

At the end of our first session, I gave him homework – which was to type a document and print it.  I told him I’d be back next week to continue our lesson, and if his homework was printed, we’d know he was making progress!

He agreed, and as I left, I felt a great level of fulfillment!

I was realizing my goals by actually helping others learn all about the wonderful world of computers!  What a great feeling!

The following week I showed up, and he proceeded to show me his work.

As soon as he gave it to me – I could tell it was typed on a typewriter, and not a printout from his computer’s printer…

We laughed and agreed this wasn’t going to help him learn how to use his computer.

He agreed he needed more training, and we continued to work together for quite some time.  I was happy knowing he still had the learning bug, and that I could really make a difference to him.

…and, at the time, the whole business consisted of just me, Martin Haas.

Just before I started Computer Tutor, I:

• was retired,
• was here in Fort Myers to take care of my mom, and
• decided I wanted to learn as much as possible about computers & technology.

As I studied computers & technology, I knew I could share what I learned, and fulfill something that means so much to me — help others enjoy and use computers as well!

With that & an ad in a local “Shopper” newspaper, Computer Tutor was open for business!

Little did I know then that I had created a company whose core goal is to provide the our customers, friends & family computer services for life.

What’s truly amazing about my journey is that we still have some of our very first customers!
